Lost Season 4 follows the "Oceanic Six"—Jack, Kate, Hurley, Sayid, Sun, and Aaron—as they are rescued from the island while a "freighter folk" expedition sent to retrieve the island crashes on its shores. Ben, Locke, and Hurley journey to the Orchid Station to activate the island's "frozen wheel," causing it to "move" and ultimately leading to the Oceanic Six's rescue and the island's disappearance. The season also introduces "flashforwards" showing the survivors' new lives and a final scene where the island is shown to be gone, revealing that Desmond and Penny are reunited after his search for his "constant" in time.
