Set in May 1996, the story follows two commercial expeditions — Adventure Consultants, led by Rob Hall, and Mountain Madness, led by Scott Fischer (Jake Gyllenhaal) — who combine their teams for a final summit attempt. The group includes experienced climbers like Beck Weathers (Josh Brolin), Doug Hansen (John Hawkes), and Yasuko Namba (Naoko Mori), as well as journalist Jon Krakauer (Michael Kelly).
