Astaire And Rogers Collection: Volume 1
DVD
Format: Pre-Owned DVD
Top Hat: A mistaken-identity romantic comedy where Rogers assumes Astaire is already married, leading to a whirlwind of flirtation and dance. The plot centers on Astaire’s tuxedo number “Top Hat, White Tie, and Tails” and the iconic duet “Cheek to Cheek”.
Swing Time: Astaire plays a gambler trying to raise $25,000 to marry his fiancée, meeting Rogers, a dancing teacher, who complicates his plans. The film is famous for “Just the Way You Look Tonight” and the set-piece “Pick Yourself Up,” where Rogers “teaches” Astaire to dance.
Follow the Fleet: Astaire is a hoofer-turned-sailor, and Rogers is his ex-partner now working the Navy for 10 cents a dance. When the fleet returns home, their partnership is renewed for one more show. Highlights include “Let Yourself Go,” “I’m Putting All My Eggs in One Basket,” and the show-within-a-show “Let’s Face the Music and Dance”.
Shall We Dance: A brassy musical-hall star (Rogers) and a ballet star (Astaire) meet in a plot that mirrors Top Hat, with similar sets, themes, and comedic misunderstandings.
The Barkleys of Broadway: Their first film together in a decade, featuring a bickering showbiz couple: Astaire, a driven dancer, and Rogers, who wants to give up dancing for stage dramas.
