The film follows Dimples as she entertains passersby with her singing and dancing, living with her kind but financially irresponsible grandfather, Professor Eustace Appleby (Frank Morgan), a pickpocket who uses petty theft to make ends meet.

The Little Colonel: Set in the post–American Civil War South of the 1870s, The Little Colonel follows Colonel Lloyd Sherman (Lionel Barrymore), a proud, gruff former Confederate who harbors deep resentment toward Yankees. His daughter, Elizabeth (Evelyn Venable), defies him by eloping with Jack Sherman (John Lodge), a Union soldier. This act of defiance leads the Colonel to disown Elizabeth, vowing never to speak to her again.

The Littlest Rebel: a 1935 American musical drama directed by David Butler, starring Shirley Temple as Virgie Cary, a six-year-old Southern plantation girl. The story is set during the American Civil War and follows Virgie’s family, who are Confederate slaveowners, as the war disrupts their peaceful life.
