Shirley Temple: America's Sweetheart Collection
DVD
Format: Pre-Owned DVD
Heidi: Eight-year-old Heidi is sent from her aunt Dete to live with her mountain-dwelling, gruff grandfather, Adolph Kramer (Jean Hersholt). Initially cold toward her, Adolph warms to Heidi’s cheerful nature, and the two form a close bond. However, Dete later takes Heidi to Frankfurt am Main to be the companion of Klara Sesemann (Marcia Mae Jones), a sheltered, disabled girl in a wheelchair. Klara’s strict housekeeper, Fraulein Rottenmeier (Mary Nash), tries to keep Klara dependent and resents Heidi’s influence.
Curly Top: Elizabeth (Shirley Temple) lives in a strict, regimented orphanage with her older sister Mary Blair (Rochelle Hudson). Elizabeth’s cheerful but mischievous nature often gets her into trouble, especially with the stern superintendent. During a visit by wealthy, solitary trustee Edward Morgan (John Boles), Elizabeth’s antics catch his attention. He intervenes to save her from being sent to a public institution, then adopts both sisters under the alias “Mr. Jones” to avoid making them feel indebted.
Little Miss Broadway: follows Betsy Brown, an orphan girl, who is temporarily adopted by Pop Shea, a friend of her parents who runs a lively theatrical boarding house filled with show business people. Next door lives Sarah Wendling (Edna May Oliver), the sharp-tongued owner of the building, who despises performers and their noise. She demands $2,500 in back rent or forces them to leave.
