Season 3 of Miami Vice aired from September 26, 1986, to May 8, 1987, spanning 24 episodes, and marked a significant tonal and stylistic shift for the series. Compared to the first two seasons, Season 3 embraced a grittier, more nihilistic tone. Storylines often ended abruptly after violent climaxes, with many characters — both good and bad — meeting tragic fates. The music shifted from upbeat synthpop and soft rock to darker new wave, electronic, and metal influences. The Miami Vice logo’s colors changed to ice blue and purple, and the show’s fashion moved away from pastel “earth tones” toward greener, yellower, and darker shades, even violating Michael Mann’s “No Earth Tones!” rule
