Frank Beardsley, a Navy Chief Warrant Officer recently detached from the USS Enterprise, is assigned to a naval base in California. There, he meets Helen North, a widowed nurse with eight children. They meet by chance in the base commissary and again when Frank brings his teenage daughter for treatment. Helen explains that the girl is simply growing up in a crowded household without a mother’s guidance, and the two hit it off.
