Season 2 begins with John Dutton (Kevin Costner) recovering from a health scare initially thought to be colon cancer, which turns out to be a ruptured ulcer, giving him renewed strength to protect his land and family. He promotes his son Kayce (Luke Grimes) to ranch foreman, while Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser) returns to the bunkhouse to help secure the ranch’s future. Beth (Kelly Reilly) expands the family business and invests in real estate, and Jamie (Wes Bentley) struggles between loyalty to his family and his political ambitions. Monica (Kelsey Asbille) begins a new chapter at the university while still recovering from her Season 1 accident.
