In season one of "Weeds", Nancy Botwin, a recent widow in the affluent Los Angeles suburb of Agrestic, begins selling marijuana to support her family after her husband's sudden death. She grapples with her newfound illegal business while trying to maintain a semblance of normalcy for her two sons, Silas and Shane, navigating their teenage and childhood issues, respectively. Meanwhile, her best friend and neighbor, Celia Hodes, deals with her own personal issues, including her husband's infidelity and her daughter's rebellious streak.
