"Valley of the Dolls" follows three ambitious women navigating fame, love, and addiction in the entertainment industry, ultimately facing personal and professional downfall.
The story centers on Anne Welles, a recent Radcliffe College graduate who leaves her small New England town for New York City in 1945 to pursue a career in show business. She begins working at a theatrical agency representing Broadway stars and quickly encounters the cutthroat nature of the industry. Anne befriends Neely O’Hara, a talented 17-year-old singer and dancer, and Jennifer North, a beautiful but insecure showgirl. Together, they form a close bond while striving for success
