Chrysagon de la Cruex, a Norman knight played by Charlton Heston, is sent by his duke to a Flemish coastal village to restore order and protect it from Frisian raiders. He and his men repel the attackers, rescuing a boy left behind. In the village, Chrysagon encounters Bronwyn (Rosemary Forsyth), a local woman being harassed by his men, and quickly develops feelings for her.
