The Rose Tattoo (1955) follows Serafina, a fiery Sicilian-American seamstress in the Louisiana Gulf Coast, who retreats into bitter mourning and isolation after her beloved truck-driving husband, Rosario, is killed smuggling contraband, especially after learning of his infidelity and suffering a miscarriage, until a boisterous, clown-faced truck driver named Alvaro arrives, possessing her late husband's physique and a matching rose tattoo, sparking a chaotic, passionate reawakening to love, life, and sensuality, much to the chagrin of her protective daughter, Rosa, and the town.
