Scared Stiff follows nightclub singer Larry Todd (Dean Martin), romantically involved with showgirl Rosie (Dorothy Malone), who is also the girlfriend of a notoriously jealous gangster named Shorty. In a botched incident, Larry mistakenly believes he has killed one of Shorty’s associates, making him a fugitive. He is joined by his bumbling busboy friend Myron Mertz (Jerry Lewis), who often worsens their predicament. To escape the police, Larry and Myron are smuggled by heiress Mary Carroll (Lizabeth Scott) onto a ship bound for Cuba, where she intends to claim a haunted ancestral castle on a remote island. Mary, despite ominous warnings and death threats, decides to take possession of the property.
