Mumford is an American comedy-drama written and directed by Lawrence Kasdan, set in a small Oregon town named Mumford where a new psychologist also bears the same name. The story follows Dr. Mumford (Loren Dean), a charming and unconventional therapist who relocates to the town after leaving his job with the IRS. His frank, offbeat approach to psychotherapy quickly makes him the most popular therapist in the area, attracting a wide range of neurotic patients. Mumford’s practice becomes a hub for the town’s social life. He befriends a wealthy, lonely computer mogul (Jason Lee), a cafe waitress (Pruitt Taylor Vince), and even attempts to play matchmaker between them. He also develops a personal connection with Sofie Crisp (Hope Davis), a woman suffering from chronic fatigue syndrome. Along the way, he treats various eccentric cases, from compulsive shopping to obsession with erotic novels.
