Metal Gear Solid is a 1998 action-adventure stealth game developed and directed by Hideo Kojima for the PlayStation, serving as the third mainline entry in the Metal Gear series. The story follows Solid Snake, a former U.S. Special Forces operative pulled from retirement to infiltrate Shadow Moses Island, an Alaskan nuclear weapons disposal facility. The facility has been seized by a rogue unit of former Special Forces operatives known as FOXHOUND, led by Liquid Snake. FOXHOUND’s goal is to obtain the preserved body of Big Boss, the legendary soldier whose genes were used to create genetically modified “Genome Soldiers.” They threaten to launch a nuclear missile on the U.S. White House unless their demands are met.
