Season 1 centers on Carrie Mathison, a CIA operations officer with bipolar disorder, who is reassigned to the Counterterrorism Center after an unauthorized operation in Iraq. She receives intelligence suggesting that Nicholas Brody, a U.S. Marine Sergeant rescued after eight years in captivity, may have been compromised by al-Qaeda and could pose a threat to national security. While the government and media celebrate Brody as a war hero, Carrie secretly surveils him, studying his behavior and home life for signs of espionage.
