Gregory Underwood, a young man on his school's football team, is replaced by a new player, Dorothy, who proves to be a natural on the pitch. Gregory is captivated by her talent and composure, shifting his focus from his demoted role as goalkeeper to winning her affection. He seeks advice from his male friends but finds that they offer little practical help. Acting on the advice of his precocious 10-year-old sister, Madeline, Gregory awkwardly asks Dorothy out on a date.
