Gears of War follows humanity's desperate struggle for survival against the monstrous Locust Horde on the planet Sera, led by soldier Marcus Fenix and his Delta Squad. Gears of War is set on Sera, a planet similar to Earth but with its own history and conflicts. Humanity once fought a devastating civil war known as the Pendulum Wars, triggered by disputes over a powerful energy source called Imulsion. After 79 years of relative peace, the subterranean Locust Horde emerges on Emergence Day, killing billions and threatening the extinction of humanity. The story centers on Marcus Fenix, a former soldier imprisoned for abandoning his post to save his father during the Battle of Aspho Fields. Fourteen years into his sentence, Marcus is rescued by his friend Dominic Santiago and rejoins the Coalition of Ordered Governments (COG) army. Alongside Delta Squad, including Augustus Cole and Damon Baird, Marcus undertakes a mission to destroy the Locust Horde and protect the remnants of human civilization.
