In Dexter's final season, a neuro-psychiatrist, Dr. Evelyn Vogel, reveals she helped Harry structure the Code of Harry, while a new killer, The Brain Surgeon, The Doomsday Killer, targets victims by removing parts of their brains associated with empathy. The season culminates with Dexter confronting the Doomsday Killer, Oliver Saxon, who shoots and critically injures Debra. Realizing Debra will never fully recover, Dexter makes the decision to remove her from life support. In the finale, Dexter abandons his life in Miami, fakes his death by driving his boat into a hurricane, and is revealed to be living as a solitary lumberjack in Oregon, under the alias "Jim Lindsay".
