In season 1 of Combat!, Vic Morrow portrays Sergeant Chip Saunders, a hardened and compassionate squad leader who is the central focus of many episodes. The overall plot of the first season (1962–1963) follows Saunders and his squad as they fight their way across northern France in the wake of the D-Day invasion in 1944.
