Carson City (1952), directed by André De Toth, is a Warner Bros. Western starring Randolph Scott, Lucille Norman, and Raymond Massey. It was the studio’s first film shot in Warnercolor and is set in Nevada’s rugged terrain. Mine owner William Sharon (Larry Keating) discovers that his gold and silver shipments from Carson City to Virginia City are repeatedly robbed by a gang known as The Champagne Bandits. After one robbery, the gang even treats the passengers to a fried chicken picnic with champagne. Sharon realizes the only way to stop the raids is to build a railroad spur from Virginia City to Carson City, allowing shipments to be sent by rail instead of stagecoach.
