Black Snake Moan follows the story of Lazarus, a God-fearing bluesman in rural Tennessee, who discovers a young woman named Rae nearly beaten to death. Rae, a victim of childhood sexual abuse, struggles with nymphomania and seeks love in all the wrong places. After her boyfriend, Ronnie, leaves for military duty, she spirals into drug use and promiscuity. Lazarus, determined to help her, chains her to his porch to protect her from herself and teach her about love and redemption.
