Better Call Saul season 1 introduces Jimmy McGill, a struggling public defender in Albuquerque, New Mexico, as he tries to make a name for himself and escape his past as a con artist. He juggles various small-time cases, including defending three teenagers accused of a sex crime involving a severed head. Jimmy's life takes a turn when he encounters the Kettleman family, who are accused of embezzlement, and later gets caught up in a dangerous situation with the Salamanca crime family. The season also explores Jimmy's complicated relationship with his brother, Chuck, who is a successful lawyer but suffers from a debilitating illness, and his growing partnership with Mike Ehrmantraut, a former police officer with a knack for getting things done. Throughout the season, Jimmy's moral compass is tested as he grapples with his desire for success and the allure of his old con artist ways, all while trying to navigate the criminal underworld of Albuquerque.
