In The Legend of Kage for the NES, players take on the role of Kage, a ninja, tasked with rescuing Princess Kiri, who has been kidnapped by an evil warlord and his ninja followers. The game features side-scrolling action with vertical scrolling elements as Kage battles through a forest, a moat, a fortress, and a castle. Kage uses a sword and shurikens to defeat enemies, and can also jump, climb trees, and perform other acrobatic moves. The game includes multiple stages with changing seasons, and Kage must rescue the princess multiple times (twice in the arcade version, three times in the NES version) before the game is truly won.
