In Vikings Season 3, Ragnar, now king, leads his people to Wessex to claim promised land, but he's drawn into a conflict with Mercia, leading to the death of his friend Torstein and questioning alliances. Back home, Kalf usurps Lagertha's earldom in Hedeby, while Rollo grieves Siggy's death. The latter half of the season focuses on Ragnar's raid on the mythical city of Paris, which is ultimately unsuccessful but allows him to take the city, although he is gravely wounded and fakes his death to gain control. Ragnar's friend Athelstan is murdered by Floki, who is jealous of Athelstan's influence and the growing Christian faith. The season ends with Ragnar in a powerful position within Paris, and Rollo agreeing to fight for Normandy, forsaking the Vikings.
