The film premiered on April 1, 2012, and was released on March 28, 2012, at the Baird Auditorium of the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History. The documentary features a life-size model of Titanoboa as it swallows a crocodile whole, showcasing the incredible size and power of this prehistoric creature. It also includes compelling text and video, providing an in-depth look at the conditions that nurtured Titanoboa and the lost world it inhabited. The film is a collaboration between the Smithsonian Institution, the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute, the Florida Museum of Natural History, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and the Smithsonian Channel, offering a unique glimpse into the early rainforest and the apex predators of the Paleocene epoch.
