The Beach House is a 2018 American made-for-television drama film directed by Roger Spottiswoode, based on Mary Alice Monroe’s 2002 novel. It stars Minka Kelly, Andie MacDowell, Chad Michael Murray, Donna Biscoe, and Makenzie Vega. The story follows Caretta “Cara” Rudland, a Chicago-based advertising professional who loses her job and returns to her family’s beach house in South Carolina at her mother Lovie’s urging. Cara is initially resistant to reconnecting with her family, especially Lovie, who is deeply devoted to protecting wild sea turtles during their spawning season. She also feels resentment toward Lovie’s fixation on the turtles and jealousy when Lovie takes in Toy Sooner, a single, pregnant 20-year-old woman seeking refuge.
