Set in the early 17th century, Squanto: A Warrior’s Tale follows the fictionalized life of Squanto, a young warrior of the Patuxet tribe on the Atlantic coast of North America. His world is one of hunting, seasonal traditions, and the constant tension with a rival neighboring band. Everything changes when a fleet of English explorers, led by the wealthy and ruthless Sir George (Michael Gambon), arrives seeking new trade and territory. Squanto is captured along with Epenow (Eric Schweig), a Nauset from Martha’s Vineyard, and taken to England as a bargaining chip. In Plymouth, they are forced into servitude under Sir George’s control. A brutal initiation sees Squanto thrown into a ring with a massive grizzly bear. Instead of fighting, he sings a Patuxet lullaby, calming the animal and surprising the crowd — including Sir George — before escaping in a rowboat.
