River's Edge (1986) is a dark crime drama about a group of disaffected teens in Northern California grappling with a friend's murder of his girlfriend, Jamie; the film explores themes of moral ambiguity, apathy, and teenage alienation as the friends, led by the unremorseful killer Samson (John) and the conflicted Layne, struggle with covering up the crime and facing the consequences, loosely inspired by a real 1981 murder and becoming a cult classic known as one of the bleakest teen films ever.
