“Raising Helen” (2004), directed by Garry Marshall, follows Helen Harris (Kate Hudson), a glamorous executive assistant at a top Manhattan modeling agency who leads a carefree, nightlife-filled lifestyle. One morning, she receives a devastating phone call: her older sister Lindsay and her husband Paul have died in a car accident, leaving behind their three children — Audrey (15), Henry (10), and Sarah (5). Lindsay’s will designates Helen as the guardian of the children, shocking both Helen and her more conventional sister Jenny (Joan Cusack), who has been raising Helen and the youngest sibling since their mother’s death. Helen, unprepared for parenting, must give up her high-heel life and move to Queens to care for the kids.
