Set in the distant future, "Outland" follows Federal Marshal William T. O'Niel, played by Sean Connery, as he embarks on a one-year tour of duty at Con Am 27, a titanium ore mining outpost located on Io, one of Jupiter's moons. The environment on Io is harsh, with gravity only one-sixth that of Earth and no breathable atmosphere, forcing miners to wear cumbersome spacesuits while working long shifts for significant bonuses.
