Only Yesterday, featuring Daisy Ridley in the English dub, follows 27-year-old Taeko Okajima as she takes a vacation to the Japanese countryside to help with the safflower harvest in 1982. On the journey there, she begins reminiscing about her 1966 fifth-grade year, reliving significant childhood memories of romance, puberty, and family life. She also meets a young farmer named Toshio, and their encounters help her reflect on how these past events shaped her as an adult, leading her to question her current path and desires.
