Season 4 of "Good Times" revolves around the Evans family's preparation for a move to Mississippi after James secures a better job. However, their joy is short-lived when they receive a telegram during their going-away party, informing them of James's death in a car accident. The season also explores Michael's budding atheism, influenced by his new boss Carl Dixon, and Florida's initial disapproval and subsequent connection with Carl. Additionally, the season features storylines about J.J.'s involvement with a gang and Thelma's relationship with an African exchange student, Ibe.
