Doctor Who Series 3 follows the Doctor as he finds a new companion, Martha Jones, after a year of solo travel following Rose Tyler's departure. The series features several self-contained episodes like the Judoon in "The Runaway Bride" and the Face of Boe's last words, but centers on a larger arc involving Martha's family and the mysterious Harold Saxon. It is revealed that Harold Saxon is the return of the Doctor's arch-nemesis, the Master, who has taken control of the Earth and uses a generation of humanity from the end of the universe, known as the Toclafane, to achieve his goal of conquering the cosmos.
