Season 1 of "Diff'rent Strokes" introduces wealthy Manhattan industrialist Phillip Drummond who adopts two African American boys, Arnold and Willis Jackson, from Harlem, after their mother, his former housekeeper, passes away. The boys, one young (Arnold) and one older (Willis), navigate their new life in a Park Avenue apartment with Mr. Drummond, his daughter Kimberly, and their housekeeper, Edna Garrett. While Arnold embraces his new life, Willis initially struggles with the adjustment and the cultural differences.
