In Los Angeles, a team of ex-MARSOC Marines, led by Ray Merrimen (Pablo Schreiber), executes a violent armored truck robbery, showcasing their tactical skills. The robbery results in a shootout with the police, leading to several casualties. Detective Nick "Big Nick" O'Brien (Gerard Butler), a hard-living and unorthodox cop, is assigned to investigate the crime. He has been monitoring Merrimen and his crew for some time and suspects their involvement in a larger scheme.
