CHiPs season 1 follows the adventures of two California Highway Patrol motorcycle officers, the serious Jon Baker and the more carefree Frank "Ponch" Poncherello. The duo navigates the Los Angeles freeways, responding to a wide range of incidents from humorous situations like assisting stranded motorists to serious crimes like car theft rings and hijackings. A central plotline is Ponch's probationary period, which is fraught with mishaps, as they work under the supervision of Sgt. Joe Getraer.
