Season 1 of Cheers (1982–1983) introduces intellectual grad student Diane Chambers, who is abandoned by her fiancé at a Boston bar. She takes a job as a waitress under charming, womanizing ex-pitcher/bar owner Sam Malone, initiating a long-term "will-they-won't-they" relationship surrounded by a motley crew of regulars and eccentric staff.
