The story begins 500 years after Sun Wukong’s imprisonment under the Five Fingers Mountain. Tang Sanzang, a novice Buddhist monk, embarks on a pilgrimage to the Thunder Monastery in India to collect sacred Buddhist scriptures, unaware of the dangers ahead. During his journey, he encounters a fierce tiger, which leads him to inadvertently free the Monkey King, Sun Wukong, from his ancient bonds. Wukong is bound by an enchanted circlet forged by Bodhisattva Guanyin, which causes him pain whenever Tang Sanzang recites certain sutras.
