Twenty years after defeating the first alien invaders, Earth faces a new, even larger alien mothership and threat. The nations of Earth have united under a global defense program, using reverse-engineered alien technology to create space defenses. As the world celebrates the anniversary of its victory, the new alien force attacks, prompting the Earth Space Defense (ESD) and the children of the heroes from the first film, led by David Levinson, to fight for humanity's survival once more.
