Country Music: A Ken Burns Film
Blu-Ray
Format: Pre-Owned Blu-ray
Country Music is an eight-part documentary miniseries directed and produced by Ken Burns, written by Dayton Duncan, and produced by Julie Dunfey. It premiered on PBS in September 2019 and explores the history, roots, and cultural impact of country music in America. The series traces the genre’s evolution from its humble beginnings in the early 20th century through to its rise as a dominant force in American popular culture. It examines the origins in minstrel music, ballads, hymns, and the blues, and how early “hillbilly music” spread via phonographs and radio. Through intimate interviews with over 100 artists and figures — including the Carter Family, Jimmie Rodgers, Bob Wills, Hank Williams, Patsy Cline, Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, Loretta Lynn, Charley Pride, Willie Nelson, Dolly Parton, Emmylou Harris, Garth Brooks, and more — the film blends personal biographies with historical context. It covers pivotal eras such as the rise of bluegrass, the honky-tonk boom, the Nashville Sound, rockabilly’s birth in Memphis, the Outlaw movement, and the New Traditionalist resurgence
