The film follows sisters Lisa (played by Mandy Moore) and Kate (played by Claire Holt) as they embark on a vacation in Mexico. Lisa is recovering from a recent breakup, and Kate encourages her to embrace adventure. They meet two local men who invite them to go shark diving in a cage, promising an exhilarating experience. Despite Lisa's initial hesitation, she agrees to join Kate on this thrilling excursion.
As they descend into the ocean, the cage is suddenly released from the boat due to a mechanical failure, causing it to plummet 47 meters (about 154 feet) to the ocean floor. Trapped with limited oxygen and surrounded by great white sharks, the sisters must confront their fears and find a way to escape. The situation becomes increasingly dire as they struggle to communicate with the boat above and fight against the ticking clock of their dwindling air supply.
