In 2010: The Year We Make Contact, a joint American-Soviet expedition is sent to Jupiter to investigate the failure of the Discovery One mission and the disappearance of astronaut David Bowman and the computer HAL 9000. While facing growing global tensions on Earth, the crew of the Russian spaceship Leonov discovers that Jupiter's moon Europa shows signs of life.
