Female Gaze

Female Gaze returns with their sophomore album, linea nigra. Frontwoman, Nelene DeGuzman, describes the upcoming record as “...a meditation on my thoughts and feelings around navigating labor, delivery, and the prospect of mothering while the world is on fire.”  An accurate description given how the overall energy of the album screams sexy Apocalypse. Nostalgic alt-rock still shines through the cracks of this doomier, more evolved sound.

“bury you,” the more pop-forward of the two lead singles, provides a momentary dance break before plunging into the depths of the rest of the album.  An infectious melody and perfectly balanced guitar, bass and drums make this a quintessential summer jam.

The second single, “what remains,” is just a taste of the brooding, long-form storytelling accomplished throughout this unique album. The heaviness of the instruments solidify the excitement and uncertainty of how the album was conceived and allow the listener to enjoy the emotional ride.
