WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2009 features the "Road to WrestleMania" mode, which replaced the older season mode and consists of six separate storylines for specific wrestlers leading up to WrestleMania. Players can choose to play as John Cena, Triple H, CM Punk, The Undertaker, Chris Jericho, or a tag team of Rey Mysterio and Batista. The mode includes unique, often quirky, cutscenes and goals tailored to each wrestler's character, with stories ranging from supernatural events for The Undertaker to battles over the future of ECW for CM Punk.
