Season 1 of Family Ties centers on the Keaton family, a couple who were former hippies raising their conservative, Reagan-era children. The show explores the generational clash between the parents, Steven and Elyse, and their eldest son, Alex, who is a staunch Republican. Other children, Mallory and Jennifer, add to the family dynamic with their distinct personalities and interests. The season also introduces the youngest child, Andrew.
