In ER Season 5, medical student Lucy Knight starts her rotation, clashing with Dr. Carter before finding a working relationship, while Dr. Corday becomes an intern again, impacting her relationship with Dr. Benton. Dr. Ross faces severe professional consequences after informing a mother how to alter her son's medication, leading to his death and a legal and ethical crisis for him. Dr. Weaver loses the chief position to the fraudulent Dr. Lee, who develops an unhealthy interest in Dr. Greene. Other plotlines include Benton learning his son is hearing impaired and Carol facing a difficult decision about her pregnancy.
