Ecco: The Tides of Time is the second installment in the Ecco the Dolphin series, developed by Novotrade International and published by Sega, released in 1994 for Sega Genesis, Sega CD, Game Gear, and Master System. On Game Gear, it retains the core gameplay of the first game but adds new puzzles, power-ups, and time-travel elements. The story continues from the ending of Ecco the Dolphin, where Ecco saved his pod and Earth from the Vortex aliens. Returning to a peaceful life, Ecco explores an underwater cave when a powerful earthquake causes an avalanche. He soon learns that the Asterite’s powers have left him — a sign that the ancient life-form has been killed and its energy stolen by the Vortex Queen.
