CHiPs season 2 centers on Officers Jon Baker and Frank "Ponch" Poncherello as they respond to various traffic accidents, crimes like auto theft and diamond heists, and public safety issues, while also dealing with personal storylines such as Ponch's fear of public speaking and Jon's consideration of leaving the force. Season two featured episodes on topics like a Halloween patrol with Sgt. Getraer, a dangerous convoy of chlorine gas trucks, and a special assignment to patrol hills with dirt bikers.
