Directed by Peter Sasdy and based on Bram Stoker’s Dracula, it blends Gothic horror with a dark, bittersweet revenge plot. The story begins with businessman Weller (Roy Kinnear) travelling through Eastern Europe. In a violent carriage accident, he witnesses a caped figure impaled by a crucifix and later discovers the remains — a ring, cloak, and dried blood marked with the name Dracula. Some time later, three seemingly respectable gentlemen — William Hargood (Geoffrey Keen), Samuel Paxton (Peter Sallis), and Jonathon Secker (John Carson) — form a secret society that secretly visits brothels. They meet Lord Courtley (Ralph Bates), a disgraced aristocrat and Satanist, who promises them “experiences they will never forget” if they purchase Weller’s Dracula relics. Courtley leads them to an abandoned church for a ritual: he mixes Dracula’s dried blood with his own and offers it to them to drink.
